Book Review: Her Only Wish (A Season of Pinecraft 2)

BOOK BY: Shelley Shepard Gray

This is a light read, revisiting the Amish community in Pinecraft, Florida.

Readers are treated to Becky Detweiler’s story, one of the three characters from the first book. Becky has a life list of things she missed learning in the past because of her health. Having lived a sheltered life, Becky is determined to do the things she wasn’t ever allowed to do – like learn how to golf, or ride a bike. Or even to fall in love.

I liked the premise – that Becky was going to learn all of these new things.

Her Only Wish started out slow and didn’t quite pick up the pace as I expected it to. Characters who revisit the pages seem quite different than they were in the first book (I liked Mary’s character in the first book, but maybe her pregnancy in this one was enough to make her disagreeable?).  As well, parental conflicts play a huge role for both Becky and August, the Amish missionary kid who teaches her how to play golf (and the man she falls for) – sometimes, it was too much so I skipped over those parts.

The descriptions of the setting were great – made me want to go to the beach!

I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
