Book Review: A Christmas in the Alps

BOOK BY: Melody Carlson

This Christmas novella is the perfect read to kick off the feel-good season.

Our heroine Simone Sophia just lost her grandmother and follows the advice of her best friend to sell her grandmother’s house and head to France to search for a long-lost family treasure. Little does our heroine tell her friend she’s terrified of flying.

There are some cute moments as Simone flies overseas and meets a handsome and young clockmaker apprentice who happens to be her seat partner. They part ways, but promise to keep in touch while in Europe. Simone heads to Avre where another slew of colourful characters greet her. And she discovers relatives she never knew she had.

There was only one character that I didn’t like, but she was a necessary part to get Simone to fly to France. She was a bit too pushy, and not the kind of friend I would want to have.

As the novel progresses, it’s a bit predictable, but fun to watch play out. A possible love triangle, a family secret, and Christmas in Europe makes for a light, but enjoyable holiday read.

And of course, Simone enjoys a happy ending.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
