Book By: Julie Klassen
Julie Klassen is an automatic buy for me and her latest novel reminded me why.
Whispers at Painswick Court gives readers a taste of the English countryside with rich descriptions and vivid language. The story itself is full of intrigue while mirroring Jane Austen’s style of storytelling. There are nods to Austen, which enhanced the plot of Klassen’s story.
The characters are endearing, except for Darby who is as roguish as they come (he’s unredeemable…). Though there’s a romance, it takes a backseat to the rest of the story which finds our heroine in an awkward situation – caring for a woman who destroyed a beloved sister’s happiness.
There are plenty of twists and surprise connections to keep the reader turning pages. Though it isn’t a fast-paced story, Klassen pulls in readers with her storytelling and interesting characters, creating an enjoyable experience that readers can savour.
I quite enjoyed this story and look forward to whatever comes next.
I received an ecopy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
