Book by: Colleen Coble, Rick Acker
This is the third book in the Tupelo Grove series and I highly recommend reading the previous two novels. I didn’t – and I was completely lost for the first quarter to half of the book. There’s a lot of summary that happens on those pages to catch a reader up, but due to the sheer number of characters and their family connections, it was difficult to figure out who was who and why s/he was bad/good.
I didn’t connect to the characters really well, and I think that is mainly due to my not having read the previous two books. I’m sure everything will make sense if I go back and read the others.
Despite that, I enjoyed the story once I figured out who people were supposed to be and what was actually going on.
There are difficult topics addressed in a sensitive manner. There’s some suspense, though there’s more storytelling than action scenes. Some descriptions of death are difficult to read (and there are quite a few deaths mentioned in this story) and the pages are loaded with family secrets and betrayals. It’s quite fascinating how everything works out in the end – especially one particular twist near the end.
A really well written story. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
